Talking all things Spider-Man and D23 announcements!
Hello, hello everyone. Welcome back to the dive in. Today, we're gonna talk about Spider-Man, brand new day, but also as of last night, there was a bunch of Marvel related news, so we figured we'd throw that in as well as like a bonus.
SPEAKER_00Not just Marvel, everything Disney. Anything you want Frozen 3, you got it. Catherine Hahn as as uh entangled, you got it. You wanted you wanted uh Ultron back as James Spader, you got it.
SPEAKER_01No one wanted Ultron back. I don't think that was a desire.
SPEAKER_00Well, I like James, like I like the actor. He's only played two roles. So everything Spider-Man's and Disney. So Noah, how is your summer going to an end so far? What are you promoting uh recently for for uh Lionsgate? Where you guys have been we've been promoting Mutiny, Jason Statham's movie.
SPEAKER_01Jason Statham on a boat.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the one on the boat, the one on the boat. So it's just I'm a megalodon. The only difference is I'm a man with no name from a background I I can't say, but this time I'm on a boat. Pretty much. I'm the beekeeper.
SPEAKER_01He's just yeah, he swaps professions and then combines it with action, and that seems to be the formula for him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and you got the Hunger Games coming up. I'm actually finishing up the book as we speak. It's a great book.
SPEAKER_01It's Jennifer Lawrence's birthday today.
SPEAKER_00Oh, there you go. Happy birthday to her. Actually, what's the last thing she was even in? Uh was the last thing she acted in.
SPEAKER_01Was it No Hard Feelings?
SPEAKER_00I'm sure she that was like three, that was like three years ago. I saw an early screening of that.
SPEAKER_01I mean, does she need to be in more stuff? I feel like she's probably upset. Well oh, she was in the Robert Pattinson movie, Die My Love. The hell is that? It it not a lot of people saw it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, was it their version of that movie where Adam Driver was in, the marriage one with uh Scarlett Johansson? No, no, no. It's it's a divorce thing. It's totally different. It's some of marriage stories. That's the one I'm thinking of for that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I I didn't know much about Die My Love. I just they did a lot of funny interviews, Jeff and Rob.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that was the whole thing that a lot of detector tests for variety, I think. Yeah, yeah. That's why I remember okay. Oh, anyway, we're getting off track. So D23. Yeah, a lot happened. The biggest thing is uh one, they showed a new teaser for Avengers Doomsday, and it was awesome. But the thing is, this makes me not want it to be Robert Downer Jr. Or don't tell us because it's Doom, it's just Doom. Yeah, it doesn't have to be Robert Downer, it's the Doom I wanted, like him posing, or as the kid say aura farming when he has a set nose on his back.
SPEAKER_01Dude, he said hell answers to me. But that's doom is the hardest line ever. That is so cool. I want that tattooed on my forehead.
SPEAKER_00No, but that's doomed to a tea. Like that's doom in the comics that I want, not that stupid doom that was in the first two Fantastic Four movies. And I I don't even remember there was a Doom in Fantastic Four stick. The one with uh Jordan and Mouth Time. He had like metal on his face. It was like something weird. Yeah, but a lot of big things. So I'm gonna go the bigger ones. Uh Incredibles III was announced. Incredibles two was bad. So but this one at least makes more sense. Zootopia 3, which I think somebody quoted, I guess every Zootopia is DLC for new animal species. So they do birds this movie, then fish will be four. Uh speaking of sequels, I like the way he looks. Uh Coco 2. Oh, yeah, for some reason, is coming out, and Miguel is now a teenager and has the guitar, but somehow the bad guy is back. People I guess Paplatine has returned. He's getting his revenge.
SPEAKER_01Oscar de la cruz.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And the best thing about that though is that Kingdom Hearts uh 4, as well as a Kingdom Hearts TV show. So what? I know a lot of people. Well that makes yeah, so the the you literally use the scene from Coco One to go right into the game and show that. You also have new movies coming out, uh showing Pixar's next new animated film called Ghost Market. Oh, yeah, I'm excited for that. Coming out, which looks really good. It's about a boy who goes to Hawaii and finds a gateway to the afterlife. Kind of looks like a funny version of like, say, a paranormal with uh Ilio, which we'll see what happens. Coco 2, of course, as we said, I'm just looking at the list right here. Uh, for my niece, uh, especially anybody under the age of five, a bluey movie is coming out, which dogman will make lots of money. And every young child, Tangled, which is one of the only live action movies I think that makes any kind of sense to do. I'd agree with that. Yes. Uh Frozen 3, like I said, looks like it's some type of sister, Percy Jackson season three. Again, it's really not listen. Uh Oswald, which is I did not know, done by the studio that did Klaus, one of my favorite animated films ever, and it looks like it's 3D. It is hand drawn. Oswald, it looks like he's 3D, but using that 2.5 style. So I'm very excited now for that. And let's see, Oswald. Yep, again, if you don't know the original, I don't know what Romney and Michelle 2 are, and I don't know what that is. I don't know what that is. It's it's it's Phoebe from Friends, and that's my age. A new Ice Age movie, because of course the whatever, and these Ice Age movies, boiling point. Now, this one is ridiculous. So Noah, how do you feel about um live action adaptations of Disney animated films? I don't see them, so I agree.
SPEAKER_01Unless it's the Haunted Mansion. Well, actually, that wasn't an animated film. No, that was a remake of a remake. And the 2003 one was perfect, so they didn't need to.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the Eddie Murphy one. I agree. So this is coming out. It's the first ever direct to DVD sequel animated film getting a live action adaptation because it made a billion dollars. Lilo and Stitch 2 is based on the direct to DVD movie. So Disney is now going into the DVD direct sequel market for live action. So maybe we'll see maybe we'll see that Mulan too.
SPEAKER_01No, no didn't they say Stitch is gonna have a girlfriend or something?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's the whole thing. Her name is Angel. That's the whole thing. So yeah, the little Stitch 2, which will make lots of money, even though it's a bad film. They they also uh Olaf has a girlfriend too. Yes, Olaf.
SPEAKER_01Giving girlfriends to all the little creatures.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Uh oh, and the one I'm looking forward to next year is the Gato that is coming out. The new movie about a cat with uh the Pedro Pascal, I believe. Oh, that sounds familiar. Yes, and what's her name from Obsess Obsession? Uh she's her career is going fast track. She is now one of the main X-Men. Yeah. She is uh rogue.
SPEAKER_01But a lot of people are like, wow, like her first role was Obsession and now this, which is not true. Like, she's been in a lot of stuff. She was in Superman and Lois, she was in 13 Reasons Why. She's been quietly at work for quite some time. It's not this like majestic miracle that all of a sudden she has a big, big role.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. Vision Quest, which now shows uh Ultron back with Heath Slater. So I guess five, six years after WandaVision, finally getting to see what he's been up to.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and the trailer was weird. It was like calling it a trilogy, like WandaVision Agatha all along, and then this as like a trilogy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. Then Ryan Gosling and his Starfighter uh Star Wars film that is coming out.
SPEAKER_01I like the jacket with the upside-down rebel uh logos. That's cool.
SPEAKER_00It's a cool design. Uh that movie Hex that's coming out that looked like an AI thing that people were making fun of with uh Jody Foster, Walton Goggins, Walt, and uh uh scrolled past that. I don't know what it was. That looks terrible. Go see Forgotten uh the Forgotten Island, whatever the dreamworks would come around at the same time. And yeah, that was Avengers Doomsday. So that's it.
SPEAKER_01Also, the rest of the X-Men, not just Indy Navaretti, Kit Connor. Um they have the whole cast.
SPEAKER_00And the rumor is apparently, because I've seen all stuff online, like, oh, Tommy McGuire Spider-Man for some reason is gonna have to fight off against all the X-Men, and he's gonna have like a last stand and die because in his universe he is the only superhero. There are no other superheroes in the Sam Raimi universe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I there's rumors about Toby Maguire's Spider-Man every single day. It's always like, oh, he's actually Well, people say this.
SPEAKER_00Would you rather have a to Spider-Man 4 or Amazing Spider-Man 3? Spider-Man and give Andrew Garfield an actual writer and director. He had a writer and director. No, he did not. Did Sony Universe name one good Sony Universe movie? None of them were good. I think Amazing Spider-Man 2 is kind of cool. Anywho, we're now talking about Spider-Man. We're Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man film. This is from the same director as Shang Chi, one of the only few good phase four, five, whatever movies have come out. And we'll start off right at the back. That was a great film. I agree.
SPEAKER_01It was a great film. Yeah, like it's you go first. You you can talk first.
SPEAKER_00I I think it's a great film. Like, you know, it's good to see them all grown up. Like, you know, and seeing Tom Holland after watching the Odyssey was kind of good to actually see him be the leading man because he didn't really do much in the Odyssey. I agree with that. And if you're a fan, like I said, like I saw it the opening night. I said I was working at Scatico. We literally looked out that Thursday afternoon.
SPEAKER_01They have uh 70 millimeter theaters uh in Elizabethville, New York.
SPEAKER_00No, they don't have 70 millimeters. Also, there's a Spider-Man showing. But yeah, if pretty much pretty much the reason why it's gonna pass Avatar, because it's already made 1.7 billion dollars. Yeah, it's wild. And it's not that good. I'll say that. It's not like Avengers, like it's not it's a great film, but uh if it's gonna become the highest grossing film, it's just the fact that it has been a good Marvel movie. Yeah, there's design. Exactly. So I I overall I enjoyed it, but how about you? What are your thoughts, initial thoughts on uh listen?
SPEAKER_01I I really liked it. I I thought it I think it it's so clear that it's a different director than the other three movies. Like you feel the vibe is completely different. The action, the web swinging, it all feels very dynamic in a way that the camera work when he's like upside down that way. The camera work was very creative and very like dynamic. And I really liked how yes, there's like 50 different elements from Marvel in it, but it all feels massaged, like it all feels like it fits well. Like the way Punisher is integrated, the way Hulk is integrated, it all feels natural and it all feels like it flows, which is something that I think Marvel has struggled with in the past. I think also DC struggles with this. Where you're sort of all right, we're easy there. Where where um when you have all these characters and how you use them, it's almost like a toy box, and it's like when do you bring this action figure out and how do you integrate him into the story? And I thought everything sort of felt natural to each other, and it made the movie exciting to spend time with these like kind of different side characters. I thought John Bernthal really surprised me in this. I'm not a big Punisher guy, but I thought it was a great, complimented, complimentary kind of dynamic to Tom Holland's character, and I really enjoyed the scenes they had together, and they even sort of have this emotional arc as well, which I thought was really, really well done. And I think people have really wanted the sort of street level heroes of Marvel to meet up, like Hawk guy, like where is he kind of thing.
SPEAKER_00Or also like Daredevil, like we'd have to meet up in the last movie. He plays the lawyer. Yeah, that's right, the lawyer. Yeah, like try to see like other characters of Jessica Jones. Apparently, there was a cut scene. Uh, what's her name? Uh, she's in Daredevil, she's the nurse, uh, with the actress's name.
SPEAKER_01I know, I I know what you're talking about. I saw that as well.
SPEAKER_00That's her name. We got a deleted scene, and she was supposed to be one of the nurses in the hospital uh so at some point during the movie.
SPEAKER_01Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so she was supposed to be the connection, but yeah, I think the best thing is the brother, big brother, little brother relationship between the Spider-Man, and then you know, again, you can the best thing about this is is the cinematography as well as the choreography, but it's also I can see. I can actually I'm sick of these damn movies. Uh it's too damn dark. Like I don't need the brightness up to 100, but back when I grew up in the 90s and 2000s, I could see stuff. Like I saw a trailer for Practical Magic 2, great Sandra Book and Nicole Kimmon movie. But like watching the trailer and same with Devil Wars Prada 2. Like, people are like, Oh, I can see it's like they they forget how movies were shot 20 years ago. Yeah, it's the lighting is lighting is important, everyone. Yeah, but this is so many damn shows. Also, breaking news for you. Why Dune Part Three will have early IMAX four days before the release date, you can see Dune 3. I never heard of a movie getting almost a week early release.
SPEAKER_01I mean they they want that word of mouth to be great, and it probably is.
SPEAKER_00Well, the thing is that comes out the same day as Avengers Doomsday.
SPEAKER_01So I don't understand how it's gonna work for the well, maybe that's why it's four days before, so you get people who could see it before then.
SPEAKER_00True. All right, anywho, we'll we're gonna go into spoilers because it's been out now almost three weeks. We'll go, we'll go, we'll go our favorite scenes. I'll go my favorite like favorite scene or moment, and and vice versa. I'm gonna piggy piggyback on what you said about the punisher. Yes, like I think most of their scenes are great. Like my one of my favorite scenes is when uh spoiler, uh, Jean Gray. Again, anybody who knew she was she was cast as a redhead, uh, is trying to find out what V Max is, and she infiltrates this like task force headquarters, and it's she takes control of the Hulk. So it's a Hulk versus the Punisher and Spider-Man and they're fighting, then they're quipping back and forth, and he's like, I want to help. Is like, that's the Hulk. Like, actually, you're right, I can't, I can't fight him. I'm just gonna go over, I'm just gonna go over here. So, like, that was probably what I'm on, as well as the scene at the end when he's in the hospital, was watching over Spider-Man after he shot him. So good when he dresses up as him. That was the mask on, like, jumps up and down, like, look at me, I'm Spider-Man. Hey. So funny. What's what's another scene that sticks out for you besides I think just their moments stick out?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, their moments were really great. I I really liked um I think the whole way sort of that final battle plays out with you know the ninjas, the hand, as you call, but then also Gene Gray being sort of tortured and coming to the realization that V Max was just like the brand of the AC that her sister was like staring up at as she was tortured to death.
SPEAKER_00Like that was pretty impactful. It exactly. It's like, oh, but the only problem I have with that is she did murder people. Like she's not a coach.
SPEAKER_01They're trying to re-revise that in the press.
SPEAKER_00If you've seen some interviews, yeah, I know, but you know, she had that guy, she got the guy she possessed in front of the car, don't seem and then what whatever people were doing in that time freeze that she did the exaver, uh, the Xavier thing from Logan. Like, no, I think people people people died, I'm pretty sure, but at least not as bad as uh the stupid uh Hawk uh the Captain Falcon winter soldier show where it was like the terrorist group. Like, I was supposed to send like no, they killed it.
SPEAKER_01I didn't watch that, yeah. Um I also really liked the you know the stuff with MJ and Ned, especially when he's in the apartment building like Legos with Ned and the whole way they handled the MJ thing, the fake out on the building where she's being possessed, like really messed up. But I thought like the conversations they have in Punishers, like hideout and the com like I really liked how they handled that dynamic and those conversations, and and I think it's really it culminates so great when Ned seems to re remember the handshake at the end.
SPEAKER_00Like that was great. And the rumors are like the sea remember him is Spider-Man that's Peter, or is the fact that he has some magic because he's the ones that didn't know what yeah, people get he has some magic, so maybe his mind was able to ru like help him out. But I I I'd like because I'm like when they when um like MJ gets uh goes to Spider-Man's place to say protector and they kiss, and they're like, Oh my god, what kind of princess BS is this? Yeah, yeah. And Jean Green's like, I wonder how she liked that. Yeah, like I'm like, oh that's like oh man, because the whole thing is the best Spider-Man is the depressed Spider-Man. And this Peter, it's been four years as Spider-Man. You get to see his friends go through MIT through their live stories and whatnot.
SPEAKER_01I like the montage of the villains like Tombstone.
SPEAKER_00I know, but but what show a little more for God's sake. Like, what the what the guy wasn't makeup longer than he was on screen was it? Tombstone was on the screen for 15 seconds.
SPEAKER_01I think they're making a Funko pop of him as well.
SPEAKER_00It's like oh great, because somebody was on give me that guy got hit by the car. I actually joke about that. That one actor who got the monologue who was possessed by Gene Gray, it was pretty damn good. The guy who spoke for like about No, everyone's raving about him. He's like being interviewed, yeah. Yeah, I said the tape, he ate, he he ate, as the kids say he did a good job. So yeah, like I would say like Gene Gray was like, yeah, because not really a villain. And the whole time looking at the guy, I watched Severance, so all I'm thinking is Severance. He's in an office building, there's some mind things going on. I'm like, this is just a weird different version of Severance. Like, he does a fine job because he's not really a villain, and this is also set to set up the X-Men because he makes an inhibitor learning from the Hulk with progressive banner, and he's gonna somehow be responsible for when uh they make something the Sentinels to suppress the X-Men. And I kind of wish at the end, before the movie ended, when she's on the bus to Hudson Valley, that they just show a building that says gifted school.
SPEAKER_01I I disagree. I think they know the audience is smart enough to realize she's not just going on a train to a random place.
SPEAKER_00I know, but it would be cool to see, or even to if they very cast Xavier just to hear his voice because that after credit scene was a joke. Yeah, 10 minutes of my life just wasted.
SPEAKER_01Well, I kind of I kind of like the spidey tracker appearing. It was not worth it. We knew that already.
SPEAKER_00What kind of it's something new?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I thought it was maybe Miles Morales or like a different movie.
SPEAKER_00It's Toby, it's Toby McGuire. That's that's what it is. All right. Yeah, but but anyway, uh uh uh uh other things that stood out at the end. Uh you gotta kinda hit the main point. I think it's just a point that this is just a fun movie. The first hour is definitely better than uh the than the second hour. I like the seeing him like going to the like the the him learning the new powers, like he gets the actual organic webs, like uh, it's like web off.
SPEAKER_01I like when he was like Peter 2 had this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, off. Yeah, he's like off. Off and like and it didn't go full man spider, which is good because you know the comics do that. So like I wanted that. I wanted him to grow some arms. But it makes sense, like he's also losing to like the red hand. Like, why is he losing to these guys? Oh, because he's not like he he can't embrace his full power, so he's like kind of weaker. Yeah, when he gets his power, he like goes, Okay, I'm just gonna kill, I'm gonna knock out all of you. Like, okay, good. Show him he's overpowered. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I just think the movie, like after it was over, like the days after, there were still things to chew on. There were emotional moments, there was analysis online, and it felt like it was a movie that had a very nice post-viewing health. Like it was like uh had a lot to to reflect on and and think about.
SPEAKER_00It's in the zeitgeist, like I said, it's not the it's not the best Marvel movie. I'm not gonna go out there. It's like it's not like a 10 out of 10, it's not even like the one of like the best Spider-Man. Like it's Spider-Man 2 and Into the Spider-Verse are better, but this is like top five, which yeah, again, it's not a bad thing, but I think it's just the fact that this is the really next to the Odyssey, this is the only other blockbuster. Like you go, it doesn't feel like I wish it was 15 minutes or less, uh 20 minutes less. I think it should have been two hours, but besides that, like you go in, the pacing's great, it's enjoyable film, and it's like okay, this is what a summer blockbuster should be. Because those two are different experience different experiences, but those are scratching the same itch, I think. But this is what the typical, but it's also just we haven't had a good we haven't had a good Marvel superhero movie in the summer for a while. Guardians three? Is that the last great movie? But I think it's the last one that came out what that came when did Guardians three come out? That was before all the DC James Guardians. Yeah, Guardians Three came out to do them googling. Came out 2023. Wow. So almost three years ago, and because and like Superman was great, but that was DC. So now like I hope this keeps the trend. The only thing I'm worried about is that for the doomsday ones that they're gonna I don't want to be so many callbacks and references and cameos, like it was mostly.
SPEAKER_01The fact that Gambit is so front and centered kind of worries me. It's like that was a bit that people enjoyed, and now he's didn't mean we wanted him as like hero.
SPEAKER_00I did I did want him. But first of all, I'll screw the screw the animated show. My god, the new writers they got, they're all about it.
SPEAKER_01I don't watch that.
SPEAKER_00Well, the guy, the first the guy who was the head creator, he was kind of to some Me Too stuff that I saw kicked out, but the problem was he was actually really good at writing the show. They got new people, you can tell it's what if instead of being Onslaught, which is a combination of Magneto and Xavier, it's for some reason Gambit combined with Apocalypse at the end. You know, watch them like this is stupid. See, look, even your face is like that's dumb. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01I don't know enough about the uh what's it called? The X-Men on it. That's something I actually tweeted it last night. I got a few likes on my tweet. I was like, you know, a casting is good when all of a sudden you care about a group of characters you never cared about before.
SPEAKER_00Well, that could be for you, but we'll see. Again, I the only thing I'm worried about is who's a Wolverine. Because who Jack is the only person to be the same character since its creation? Every other character's had different narrations between the city. Yeah, you need a new one for sure. Well, like how young, because the thing is they're going young, they're going like the the the the 2000s TV show with a high schooler. So yeah, even though even though in this movie, uh her older sister actress is 16, and the actress playing Gene Gray is 24, playing the younger sister. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01Um speaking of Gene Gray, I think one my big qualm with Brand New Day is as great as Jean Gray was, and I love the parallel between Peter and her, and I I would have loved a Spider Man villain as the main villain. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Well, you can also tell so much insomniac. Between the the gadgets that people got and like the upgrades and the fight moves. And you actually we forgot the best scene. The best scene in the movie is she Gene Gray when she's going through her super like omega level powers because when she sees the event, like you said, Aunt May is the one that helps her because she goes and so that that's the best that's the best scene. She the whole film, Peter's somehow able to resist her mind powers, and he just lets her in when he's fully powered up, and Aunt May is the one to give her the advice that she needs. So it's like in a way, I kind of like that because like showing her the way, and then also this shows that Peter will have a connection with the X-Men.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I yeah, I I forgot about that. That was an incredible moment. That really worked.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so they also to have her, but that's anything that's that's why though I kind of do hate though that this is the same ending as Thunderbolts, the power of friendship. There's two movies in a row. They literally gave Bob a hug.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00That's literally how the and this is this is almost the same way. Him him giving her a hug. Her giving her a hug.
SPEAKER_01I guess so.
SPEAKER_00But if any I just don't like the power of friendship bullshit, it's like let's let's let's have let's have Spider-Man has so many villains. I think next to Batman, I think he's the only other villain that has like there's literally the comics of Sinister Six and there's Sinister 666 or 606. Uh that's a really hobgoblin.
SPEAKER_01Where's the hobgoblin?
SPEAKER_00How can you have a hobgoblin if no you have to have Green Goblin that makes the hobgoblin? That's how I think. No, we have no, we haven't. We have we had an over Osborne in this universe? Have you ever mentioned Opscorp? No. What are you talking about? Because the thing is, they can go for Venom. There's two routes video game, Oscorp. But don't forget, technically speaking, Ted Lasso, the actor, was the bartender when Tom Hardy showed up. Yes. And his symbiote is technically still in this universe.
SPEAKER_01Well, they really screwed themselves with Venom by like imprisoning him in Sony Universe world where it's like they don't seem to know what to do with it.
SPEAKER_00I watched it, I watched it not good.
SPEAKER_01But like Venom is a huge villain in the Spider-Man world, and it's like I feel like Yeah, but he's not just a huge villain, he's also the character.
SPEAKER_00Like he's like flat, like it's supposed to also be somebody in Peter's life. Yeah. He's not just like some random guy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so bummer, they can't freely kind of integrate him because it feels like that would help bring some of those classic Spider-Man villains into this this world for this Peter.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I don't know, we'll see. Uh but yeah, overall, I I give it a B plus. If I had to do a letter grade, it's not the best, it's not like an A, but it's enjoyable for a summer blockbuster. Like I give it a B plus. Like it's definitely worth seeing in a theater. Something I would see again, like you know, if I want other people want to watch it, but like nothing I'm like, it's not like the Odyssey, like you have to see this in a theater. It's not that level, so I can't give it an A or higher.
SPEAKER_01I give it an A-. I thought it was very well done for everything against Marvel these days. I thought it was a very refreshing breath of fresh air for them. Just wished it had a Spider-Man villain.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's what I'm saying. I think the Spider-Man villain and the whole Gene Gray so and so. But yeah, I'd say definitely I'd say definitely go see it. Oh, yeah, definitely see it. And definitely see Mutiny coming out August 21st. Yeah, see that too. And Insidious also coming out August 21st. Yeah. Yeah, but yeah, overall, yeah, I would say this definitely worth watching. Um, anything you want to recommend? Any books, video games, podcasts.
SPEAKER_01I've been watching, I mean, House of the Dragon season three just ended and it was fantastic. Yeah, don't say anything. I was at camp, so I won't spoil it, but everyone should watch it. I haven't watched it yet, but lanterns is supposed to be good. It premieres.
SPEAKER_00It said, yeah, my friend works there. He got to see an early screen, got a ring and everything. Works on one of the brothers. Lucky. Well, the reviews are great, and I bet you it's great. So the first trail looked terrible, but the second show, like, okay. Yeah, they locked in for that second trailer. I've never that guy, that guy's good. Rebel Ridge is like a up to a modern-day Rambo. Like that guy heard of fantastic. Like, I I I'm like, okay, well, this looks like Rambo, but new. But no, like that guy can act. And the coach from Friday Lights is also a good actor. So yeah. Yeah. Lantons looks good. Uh, I've just finished watching The Hawk. I've been watching that all day. The Will Farrell golf show. The Hawk. I've never heard of that. I'm good. It's a Will Farrow golf comedy. After watching the one on Apple with Owen Wilson, I like this one a little bit better. It's definitely for fans of 2000 comedies. Like it's a good cast. It was fun, and you know, it's a half an hour episode, so it's a good good time to watch. But what I'm looking forward to is a movie that we need to support two weeks from now. The reviews have been coming out already. Watch Acme versus Wiley Coyote. Because this can be something. So Coyote versus Acme. This is something that a movie that was literally scrapped. Yeah. Was finished two years ago, was put to the waste spin. And I watched the one that Ketchup saved a year ago. The The Day the Earth stood still. Great 2D animation. And this one I'm so happy as now the reviews are actually good, which I'm shocked. But it looks like good classic Looney Tunes. This is what happened back in action, Brandon Furry in 2004. It's supposed to be a Tony Hawk Space Jam movie. This bombed. But this I want people need to go pay to see it if you want to support films. The film should never be deleted, no matter how bad. Yeah, bring Batgirl back. No matter how bad it was. And I've heard it was bad because I know somebody who saw it. And it's bad. But I want to see, I'd rather have a catwoman-like movie, but show it to the public. Yeah. Because the movie shouldn't be canceled because it gives the studio way too much power. It should be a tax write-off. It's because you don't like it.
SPEAKER_01Brandon works. I deserve to see Brennan Frazier Firefly.
SPEAKER_00There you go, exactly. The villain. So I'm I'm seeing it day one. I already got my ticket. I'm seeing it in AMC. And I'm going to support it because I did it with the day of the Earth Stood Still. Yes. Was I the only person in the theater? Yes, I was. Did I buy it on DVD to support it? Yes, I did. But Ketchup Entertainment is supporting. Let's support the films, and that's really it. And then yeah, this the I want to see the uh what's happening at the Oak Street, whatever, but now I'm like, eh. I'm supposed to see that Monday. Uh I'm looking forward to it. Nah, I'm gonna wait till streaming. I was gonna see it. I'm like, nah, I'm good. But I don't know, but we'll see. Yeah, that's really it. And then uh that's a TV show. It's like I gotta catch up on the Game of Thrones, a bunch of stuff. New Ted Lasso. I haven't watched yet. So I heard I've heard good things, but it's Ted Lasso. And something called Trying, which is also about a family. My mom just started watching that. Yeah, it's about family couldn't have kids, adoption, and then uh a couple episodes in it. It's a nice show. But that's what I understand about Apple. Apple has all these shows that no, I it's been it's five seasons I've never heard of. And I you mean like we know our stuff. Like I know usually what's coming out. I never heard of trying, it's been out since like 2021. Like the amount of shows Apple has like so many sci-fi like silos, yeah. They have a lot of sci-fi stuff. But that's why I'm oh actually, one thing I recommend. I don't read sci-fi books. I camp, uh counselor recommended I read something called Missborn. Brand Stevenson is like the the Stephen King of Sci-Fi and fantasy. Right? And it came out in 2006 when I was a pressenior, and his show was be was Amazon, Apple, and Netflix all fought to buy the rights to have this TV show based on this trilogy, Missborn. Apple won, he just finished the screenplay. They're going into casting now. That took a while. It's incre no, no, but he's had all he writes like 10 books a year now. That's wild. But it's like the most famous, like one of the most famous trilogies of the fantasy genre, and it's an incredible book. Like it's 600 something pages long, and I usually don't read those books, but I have the trilogy. I'm on the I'm almost on the second book right now, and I cannot wait because Apple will pay the money and do right by this. They will be able to do that. It's like the AI show with what's his name, whatever the actor was that nobody saw. So so the the one I'm glad Apple got it because the one studio that's gonna pay money to make it right, even if nobody sees it, is Apple. So Mistborn, highly recommend the Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Stevenson, and I'm very excited to see what's gonna happen. Also, over under two more Spider-Man movies for Tom Holland. I think two is a good two solo two point five. Let's go over under two point five. Yeah, solo Spider-Man, not cameos, not like he's in the X-Men, not in Avengers.
SPEAKER_01I think we could squeeze two out of him. I don't know. I think two is max. Two is max for sure. He's got to hand the torch off to someone. Well, that that's the case.
SPEAKER_00Well be a Miles Morales shows up in this universe. I think that's the move. Or do you go do you go like uh because technically there's two routes? You can go that or the the there's a one where it's um uh what's her name? They made silk. Uh silk is when the same the same spider also bit her that same day, and she gets the powers. But the comments get weird because they can't be together in the room, they start with a lot of things. Well, well, they got bit by the spider, so their hormones go crazy and they can't they have to hook up. They can't help it. That's interesting. Yeah, because that's also that's supposed that was supposed to be an Amazon show that got cancelled. Silk? I think I remember that announcement. A Silk TV show cancelled? Let me see. That was like Oh, not no, not solo, Silk Spider-Man. But that's again, Sil never heard of it. I've seen it in the books. Silk Spider-Man. Oh yeah, they cancelled it and it was supposed to be Silk Spider Society, May 2024. Damn. That's so crazy. But anywho, yes. Alright, well, good luck with promoting your uh mutiny. Thanks. I I I want to see reviews. I've seen every Jason Statham movie. I've seen Working Man in theaters. Alright, so see this one in theaters. Yeah, but it doesn't have the same vibe though, like on the beekeeper. Well I'm excited for his new movie coming out next year. Jason Statham Stole My Bike? No, no, Jason Statham has Jason Statham. The same director as uh yeah, that movie. The same director who did Nicholas Cage uh Yeah, I think it's called Jason Statham Stole My Bike. Isn't that what we say? Because I love him in Spy. Have you never seen it? What's the good movie? Watch Spy with Jason Statham with McCarthy. It's hilarious. Oh, I I remember that one. Like it's actually one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my life. Oh wait, the oh the oh my god, Beekeeper 2 is coming out in January. Oh yeah, they're cooking on a on another one. Jason Statham stole my bike. Yeah, what a title. Oh my god. I'm gonna watch both of those on the beekeeper. I'm a mega it's a megalodon. It's a megalodon. Is that the mag you're referencing? Yes, it's a megalodon. Meg 2 is terrible. I didn't see that. I also recommend we'll not say watch Kracoon. It's a better raccoon on Krack. Where are you pulling these terrible shows out? That's awful. Cracoon. Where do you even watch that? It's on Amazon Prime. Of course. Yeah. Or Tubi. Or Tubi. Tubi? Tubi, yeah. It sounds like it. No, right, fine, whatever. All right. So thanks for listening to us. Uh go see Spider-Man. Go see Odyssey while they're still out in theaters in the next two weeks. And uh good night, San Diego.
