We're baaaaaaack. Quinn and Noah talk all things Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY. What did you think?
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the dive-in. Sorry, it's been two years.
SPEAKER_00Been busy. He's been promoting all his Lion Gate movies with all the successes and big hits coming out, and me with school having a bug in my ear at camp last year, Scatico having multiple surgeries back at it. What? Oh yeah, that's how that's how co-war broke last year. They retired my jersey. And one of the things was Harry Savitz was in a bug costume roasting me because a bug flew into my ear while driving a kid to the infirm. Ruptured my eardrum. So that was a fun time last summer. I I don't recall hearing about that. So that's why. So now we're back on the men, but we are back, and it's probably one of the biggest movies, at least not multiple, but a couple movies bringing the box office back. And you know, I said one of the oldest stories. I've read it multiple times. I've just finished reading it before the movie. The the Odyssey. Odyssey. Christopher Nolan's passion project he's wanted to do for what at least 15 years or so? I guess so. Yeah, so we're we're back at it, and I would and you know, I would have to say this is before we get into the review, it's good to be back. And I would have to say Odyssey is a movie experience.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would say so.
SPEAKER_00Now before we before we go, did you see it? What kind of screen did you see it at?
SPEAKER_01I saw it in a regular IMAX screening on opening day on I think it was like the Thursday of like it was like 1 p.m. I took the day, it was my birthday actually. I took the day off, and one of the things I did was I went to the Jaws exhibit at the Academy Museum, and then I went to the Odyssey at 1 p.m. at the Grove in LA, got a free poster right when I walked in, so I immediately knew I was gonna like it.
SPEAKER_00There you go, free merch always works.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it does, even though it's too big and there's no frames that they sell that are that big, and I'd have to get a custom frame, and I'm not trying to do that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can just pin it on the wall, but before that, you said how what was your favorite thing at the Jaws exhibit?
SPEAKER_01Oh, it was so awesome. There were so many props. I didn't really like I didn't know much about the book and like how everything came from a book. Well, you know who who wrote the book? No, I forgot.
SPEAKER_00Well, who do you think? It's somebody you might like and uh uh uh that you admire their work. I'll just look it up.
SPEAKER_01I don't I don't think it was someone I knew. I think you might be wrong. Peter Benchley, I have no idea.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you don't know that is, but did you do that? That's the it's that's the first summer blockbuster.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I do know that. And basically the way the exhibit worked is you sort of walk through in order like pre-production, production, and then the last room was like all the merchandise and the posters that came from the movie, but it was cool. Like they had they they built like a model of the ship, they had the barrels, they had um a bunch of like underwater cameras on display.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because that came out the guy.
SPEAKER_01The guy's head, you know, when they're exploring the shipwreck and his head, they had his head like in a in a glass case, and I like that.
SPEAKER_00That's right up your action. Yeah, yeah. I love that film. I saw it for the 40th anniversary in the IMAX, like on the big screen, and it still holds up, and it's the highest grossing film adjusted to inflation to this day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I saw it, I saw it with a live orchestra last year. It was cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's awesome. The only thing I've ever done with that is I saw um one of the Lord of the Rings in concert with a friend with the and the NJ State Theater in uh is it Poughkeepsie Brunswick somewhere in Jersey. That was pretty cool. But yeah, so your experience for the Odyssey, I saw it at the Kingston Theater, the mall, but uh tomorrow I'm going to the Lincoln Center August 2nd to see it at the 70mm 95 times 76 screen because I bought tickets when it went on sale. But the problem was at Cascatico, visiting day is halfway through the summer. I bought the tickets, didn't realize it was revisiting day for this year, 2026, so I had to then sell them, and I went, oof, did you make a profit? No, I I gave it to somebody I I I I work with that has a brother who lives in the city.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm not gonna be you know I actually got my ticket from a friend, he couldn't go anymore, so I didn't I had bought tickets for the the later in the weekend, but I ended up not going to that and because I saw it earlier. But yeah, I I don't know the whole 70 millimeter IMAX thing, it's all confusing.
SPEAKER_00Uh I know I'm supposed to be a film guy, but a lot of it is sort of like well these the 70 millimeter like the Garner State Mall has a 70 millimeter theater now, but not like the size, it has the film, so it actually has it. So if you go to the Garner State, New Jersey, they've been doing construction, it opened up about a month ago. Interesting. They have a 70 millimeter and IMAX. I haven't gone to it. I am gonna go see it again with my dad when camp ends. His first movie in six years is gonna be Odyssey. He brings people out that don't really go exactly. So we'll get right into it. Do the Odyssey, I would say the second oldest story or most known story next to the Bible. Like, like pretty much it's probably the most well-known story in fiction. Three over 3,300 years old. Yeah, and the second the second Nolan was like, I want to make this movie, I want like a $300 million budget, and everything's gonna be practical. Every other director would be like, You're out of your mind. The studio went, when do you need it? How much, and who do you want? And he got it all. And every yeah, and every actor, except one actor, read the script, every other actor agreed without reading the script. Who was the one actor that asked to look at the script before agreeing to sign off? Every other actor, Holland. Was it Patton? Pattonson's like, I just need to check. I just need to double check. Which they're neighbors now, by the way.
SPEAKER_01I read that. Yeah, they're like doing big. So that means Pattinson's in a nice giant house somewhere if he's living next to Nolan.
SPEAKER_00Well, think about it. He's been killing it. Like he won an Oscar, the boy and the herring for best animated film a couple years ago. He was acting this year. Like, I saw the drama. I love the drama. I take the invite over the drama. That's another debate. I need to see that. Everyone's saying that's great.
SPEAKER_01It's Edward Norton's best film in the last decade. I probably can't name another Edward Norton movie in the last decade, but well, that's the problem. I think Sam Rockwell has kind of overtaken him. That's true. I can name Sam Rockwell projects Rockman or Rockwell.
SPEAKER_00Rockwell. Gotcha. Three build three Billboard, Missouri, best of enemies with the KK. But anywho, so White Lotus. Yeah, White Lotus. So uh so yeah. Uh honestly, this is this is probably I would say the last five years, like the movie event people are weighing that wasn't like the superhero. Yeah. Like this is like I everyone's like, I need to see what his vision is because clearly he can't do it. So I'm gonna let you go because you probably never read it. You probably wouldn't.
SPEAKER_01That's mean to assume I've never read it. Did you read it? I probably read it at some point. I can't say I remember much from it.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, it's a sequel.
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_00Well, the the Iliad. Remember the general, the cool the guy in the black armor? That's the first part. The Iliad is the Battle of Troy. The Odyssey is after the battle. So this is the sequel to the Iliad.
SPEAKER_01You're saying things I feel like I've heard, but I don't have committed to memory. But context. So yeah, I mean, I'm not one to run to like a big historical epic. I'm I'm more so someone I argue with my friends a lot. I prefer more more whimsical movies that have a little bit of like otherworldliness to it. And I think Nolan's a guy who takes everything very grounded.
SPEAKER_00Wait, you with whims you and whimsy is the opposite of what I like. You you like the you like the shock and the horror in the suspense.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but there's always a whim. When I say whimsy, I mean it's like taking place in a world that's like not necessarily our own. It's like a little off. Um whereas Nolan's movies are so grounded, like even his Batman, he was like, How do I take away all of the comic book campiness and make it grounded? And no issue with that. It was great, but I'm someone who would prefer, like, you know, think of like Suicide Squad. Those characters are like magical and all sorts of stuff like that. But anyway, moving on. Um, I I was excited, I I knew you know the trailers were holding back a lot of sort of the more mythical elements of the story. So while I was watching, I think in the beginning, the movie is very much Nolan grounded warrior story. I mean, you got a great opening scene with Elliot Page getting like stabbed in that the horse. Um, and as the movie went on, and as it became clear to me what the structure of the movie was gonna be, I fell more and more in love with it. I think the way it tells the story and how Odysseus is trying to remember the journey that brought him to the uh that island, that for me is when it was really, really working, and everything they encountered from the Cyclops to Circe to the Sirens, like every it felt like a big adventure. And I I love that, and I loved the variety of obstacles. And I think another thing, just as a Walking Dead fan, a lot of Walking Dead legacy cast in this project. It was a big weekend when it opened for these Walking Dead. Samantha Morton, who played Alpha in the later seasons of The Walking Dead, incredible performances, Cersei. And anyone who brings up that performance, that the first thing I say is if you stayed with The Walking Dead and you didn't stop, you would have seen her chops. You would have seen what she can do. And she's been doing a lot of great work in other projects. Uh, I'm just more familiar with her from Walking Dead, but besides the fact, I I really, really, really uh enjoyed the journey and I enjoyed the scale, and I thought the score was quite haunting, to be honest. And I thought in general, the movie was very haunting. And I obviously for Nolan to really dive into his horror instincts was fun for me. And going in, I had assumed I had seen some reactions saying, Oh, you know, he needs to direct a horror movie now. And I'm like, all right, so there's gonna be one scene with the Cyclops that's gonna be horror, but I was wrong. There are multiple instances of like real dread and terror that happened throughout the story.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's Greek Greek mythology. Greek mythology is that exact yeah, you're you're right, like the Hades thing.
SPEAKER_01Is that Hades, right?
SPEAKER_00Out of the Yeah, so in the in the store, he actually goes to the underworld, but he made it his own thing, like having it that waistline, having like Paige to have him coming up and then like you know, seeing everyone else come up. And if you look at the cyclops, you'd realize I've never seen a cyclop design. His he blinked sideways. It was creepy. It was yeah, so instead of having a giant you know eyeball on your forehead, it was kind of like slanted and blinked. I've never seen like a sideways blink.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I one of my like earliest like memories of something that scared me was I used to have like a sticker book or something of monsters, and I'll never forget this like really gory image of a cyclops holding like a leg. And um this scene like brought that vibe back to me of how like cyclopses are jet can be so unsettling, even though in in this case it was sort of portrayed as like uh not someone who was actively looking to harm them, but they were infiltrating.
SPEAKER_00He was just making some cheese, he was just trying to literally say heard some cheese, make some cheese. Yeah, my first memory is uh one of the older films because this has many adaptations, the Jason Argonauts. Like yeah, you ever watch that 1950s classic when they have like the monsters, but yes, I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_01Skeleton, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I would say yeah, that they actually I don't know how they did the effects back there, but Nolan kind of did his version, I think, to the best ability he could have possibly done. It tells an incredible story, but also just shows you know, like just his hubris for Odysseus and what his men are going through. And the fact is the best thing about this movie are the score and the practical effects. Like oh yeah, you like the the the cyclops, yeah, that's CGI, but they made a 25-foot puppet dummy. Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, which or uh Avengers use a tennis ball.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Like the actors can tell the performance also.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Yeah, so rather than we'll go to the cast. Like Ann Hathaway, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, uh John Luguzamo, he killed it. And Robert Patterson, Patterson, I think it was his last name, Rob. Is it Pat Pattinson? Robert Robert Pattinson or John Guzama should both be nominated for best supporting. I agree 100%. Those beggars. Yeah, the beggars. That that I see that all over the internet. Good for but but they killed it, and I think John Luguzama, he definitely he deserves this nomination for having and you know his play back in the day was inspiration for Goodwill Hunting. Matt Damon and uh Ben Affleck saw his one-man show. Oh, really? And it inspired them to do goodwill hunting. Matt Damon talked about in uh recent interviews that they were on. And even the dog, the dog apparently is the breed that was there. It's it's one of the oldest dogs, it's the oldest dog breed in the world. There's only 60 of them.

SPEAKER_00The dog that they use, it's a Portuguese something that John Gosano was talking about. Said a great dog, a terrible actor. So even that, like you can tell they put their hearts, you can tell Christopher Nolan gave them good direction, and you can just tell that even Anne Hathaway, uh, I thought she was amazing. The few scenes that she has are some of the most impactful. I agree.
SPEAKER_01I and people were making fun of her based on the trailer, uh but and she totally shut that down with her performance in the movie. I thought it was really, really well done.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so uh overall, like we're gonna talk spoilers about what this movie's been out at this point almost a month.
SPEAKER_01I mean, some people have waited to see it because they were only able to get tickets.
SPEAKER_00Uh I know who they're it's going out to the 12th of September. Like it's gonna make it's at the as of recording of August 1st, it's $800 million. Insane. So this woke movie really you know showed because you know the armor is wrong. This fictitious story that's not real is wrong. But I I would say this let's uh best things for the movie or do best scenes. Best scenes, we can do best scenes. I like it. So I'm gonna go first. Okay. I guess we can go in order. Well, actually, no, I know what scene you're gonna pick. So why don't you go first? Google one scene each. We'll do two scenes each, and I know which one you want to pick.
SPEAKER_01Uh the Circe scene with the transformation into the pigs. And I I already talked about the Cyclop scene, so I'll pick a different scene. I really, really enjoyed um the siren part, you know. When I I loved the music, the music, but you also the camera never gets close to the siren, they're always just in the distance. You never get a close-up, and I love that sort of like forbiddenness, like you can't even go near them. The camera won't even go near them. And I thought that was a really, really well done scene. And Matt Damon his performance reacting to it. I mean, it was it was really, really great stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that that that's a that's a great scene. And I've that like I've been listening to the soundtrack, and that's like one of the ones that you just as memeable as I've been seeing it, like you know, it's when you're on a diet and you go back past McDonald's. It's also somehow worked in that way. Like it's worked like to be impactful, but also like I know my students, if I go back to school, probably have seen scenes from this movie because of memes. So it's good, the good and bad. So that's that's a great scene. I'm well, we can be very easy. The best the best scene in the whole film is the scene at the end. The the big culminating scene with everyone, the scene where there's no words spoken. He's just the beggar with the bow, everybody's laughing. Yeah, Penelope is walk walking away, he twists it, it's just the sound of the bow and him doing the the the warning string, and everyone knows without a word being said. Yeah, that was the buildup to everything, and I love that no words were done. Yeah, and you can tell. And it also goes to my other favorite scene, which is before that, when he is telling his wife through himself as a beggar about how he's heard of Odysseus, and him finally realizing that the men at sea are them, and that just like Oppenheimer, he had to make a choice keep fighting in the Trojan War for ten plus more years, or doing the Trojan horse, breaking the the the the the law of Zeus and ending it, and him winning the war was breaking the laws of the world, which has caused it to change, and him having that talk is him realizing that he himself couldn't forgive what he's done to the world, which is why he never really wanted to come back. Yeah, and it's a lot of op and hyper in that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. I love the the final flashback to the to the gates opening and his reaction, and then you find out why Athena has been following him around the whole time. Like that that was really, really awesome. A really great payoff and and quite chilling as well.
SPEAKER_00Well, because the mat it was a massacre, because the whole movie is a build-up, he's flashing back, looking up at something. We we keep seeing glimpses, and at the end, you just see this. It wasn't a triumphant battle of victory, it was a slaughter, it was a murder, massacre, a sacrilege. And unlike the book, I'm a fan that no one didn't use the gods at all in this movie. There was no Poseidon.
SPEAKER_01So in the book, Poseidon like pops out and is like, yo, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Well, Poseidon, Poseidon screws him up, puts him off course. There's other scenes that didn't have like the bag of wind, and they release it early, and Athena actually tur turns his disguise into he actually changes, like he becomes like an old beggar. That's why there's a famous painting, and one of the saddest and greatest scenes is he also has a a dog. Yeah, 20 years has been waiting in the original story, and there's a famous painting. The dog realizes it's Odysseus, but he can't go to the dog. Because if he goes to the dog, his covers what?
SPEAKER_01Alone.
SPEAKER_00So in the book, he doesn't pet the dog.
SPEAKER_01Aww.
SPEAKER_00The dog looks up and it's a famous painting. Anybody can look it up, and is just looking up at him, and then he dies. That's why I like in the movie you actually get the scene where he gets to pet the dog once the tail wags, and then he dies. It's like giving some humanity to it.
SPEAKER_01That was sad. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00No, but it's supposed to be Greek.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_00I this is open up the gateway that if directors can look at old stories, so not just Greek mythology. You're looking at Egyptian, you're looking at ancient civilizations, like the tale of Gilgamesh, like one of the oldest stories told. Maybe we can have that. But the thing is they have to have a director that's gonna put in the time and effort, and you're gonna have to have a cast. The only weak spot, I loved him as you're gonna see it soon. I loved him as the punisher in the Spider-Man. He didn't change his voice at all. You didn't like John Berthall in this movie? It was okay. Compared to everybody else. That was what I thought about Tom Holland, unfortunately. Well, Tom Holland didn't get he's supposed to be more of a badass. Like in the book, he actually like helps his father kill most of the men. Not not in this where he struggles to kill a shepherd's farm, like helping hand upstairs when they're throwing the weapons down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just think I I maybe it's because I I don't think there was much dynamic moments with that character in in the movie for Tom. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I I would have I felt like everyone was really going uh hard and I would say those two are the weakest, but it's also like you had the guy who was in yesterday, the the I forgot his name, the soldier with the beard who's in yesterday. That actor, he's he's really good, he's been in a couple stuff.
SPEAKER_01Uh I have the cast list up on my second screen.
SPEAKER_00There you go. Patel. Uh Himish or Hamish Patel. Yes, was really was phenomenal. Like, and also he doesn't talk with the now the act, he's actually the two highest grossing movies is Bowser Jr. and Agamemnon, uh Benny uh Safti. He's just this the Aurora of that the seeing him in the black outfit and the everything coming. I think the coolest shot is him coming out of the gate when they break in. Oh it's just all the soul. This the soldiers rushing when he's just standing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the aura is crazy.
SPEAKER_00I mean he's only in the movie for like four minutes, and it's like he's such a presence.
SPEAKER_01But I think I don't know if that's him, or really that's just like the power of that costume and how Nolan the thing is the Iliad is all about him, it's that character.
SPEAKER_00So, like if you want to know more and say it just opens up the gate, let's say like a decade from now he makes the Iliad. Ooh, you know what I mean? Like let's say he waits and he's like, let's tell his story. Now we have like the helmet of Troy, we have the actresses and actors in place for that. And you and you get like a different actor at that point to play young Odysseus is to see him. That's we can see. Yeah, but I there's really this is a movie that does not it makes people think. I've seen people my age like it, I've seen people older. I said I'm at Scatico right now, I've seen like the JCs. Oh wow, 17 year olds like it. Some didn't understand it. Oh but I don't blame them. They're 17. But I would say for the most part, this is a movie that has made people want to go. And the fact is, look, it's making it's gonna make a billion dollars, I think. Who would have thought three uh three hour uh Greek. Mythology epic, and it doesn't feel like three hours.
SPEAKER_01Not once did I look at my phone. No, it does not feel long, and I was worried it would feel long. I think it's wonderful.
SPEAKER_00Because once you get past the first 30 minutes, you go to island to island to island to island. It's like a show. Exactly. And the best thing is that this the one shot I until everybody, the shot when they're on the island with the cannibals and the suits of iron armor. The fact that's a real shot. That's a real guy and a four foot five woman. I'm like, how is that? I keep saying, how is that a practical effect? That was crazy. I forgot about that scene. That no, oh, the the trees moving and everything and whatnot. Yeah, trapping them and uh it's not really a bad scene. Because it the thing is, it and and this it's just like the the slow moments make you think the music just fits perfectly, and it just doesn't dominate at the Oscars. Like it's gonna win like cinematography, score.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think the only competitor is Dune.
SPEAKER_00But I don't think but I don't even think that it's gonna be really, really hard. Like right now, I Matt Damon's gotta be front runner for like Project Hail Mary, maybe?
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00No, but that's a great movie, but it's not an Oscar movie. You'd be surprised. I could see it scooping up some notes. Ryan Gosling's not gonna get best actor for you never know. No. I love Project Hail Mary, but as of now, no, but but again, we'll we'll have to see. But yeah, I I would say uh like very just well done. It's just a movie that makes you think and it makes you want to see it again. Not just in a theater, in a theater, not but that's the biggest thing because box offices are back now. Like I said, Spider-Man at this point is gonna make almost a billion dollars opening weekend. This is this is gonna make almost a billion here, but we can I don't know, but we can do some final thoughts on the uh we're doing we're doing a letter grade. So do you want to go first or second?
SPEAKER_01I could go first. I'm gonna give it an A. Uh A plus being the highest. I gave it a 4.5 out of five on letterboxed. Um I I think it's you know phenomenal. I think it's executed near perfectly, and I think it checks all the boxes where it's telling a compelling narrative, it's letting legacy actors kind of show their chops, and it's also letting a director kind of do some things he hasn't done before, yet it you know it all still works. And I think the beauty of it is he's taking a very, very classic story and kind of redoing it in a way where it's now digestible by kind of young movie-going audiences who want the epicness of it, but maybe aren't a fan of reading you know old text and and stuff like that. So I I honestly like, are any of your English teacher friends like, oh my god, yes, finally, and now my students are all excited to read or something like that.
SPEAKER_00Well, I said I I say I I think I'm an eighth-grade teacher. There's nothing, it's rated R, but there's nothing in it that I see that's inappropriate, like for that age. There's no like excessive cursing, there's no nudity, there's no even the violence, like this the scene with the ogre, you don't really see that much. And then with the witches, with her the the scene with the pigs, you know, they revert they they it was practical, they they sped up the footage and they reversed it.
SPEAKER_01It was practical. I had no idea how they did it though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've been watching a lot of interviews, but I think I'm gonna I'm I'm going A plus myself just because someone's perfect. No, no, it's I I just think of the fact is that it's got an incredible score, it's an incredible screenplay, it's an incredible cast of acting to the top of the ability, and it's exactly what a film should be. Is it gonna be the best film I've seen ever? Honestly, no, but is it a movie that makes you think a movie that makes me and others want to go to a theater, which is rare? That's why I'm giving an A, because I think I want to up it one more level because of the importance of getting people into the theater, like showing that movies still matter. You can either watch this or that stupid My Idiot Brother movie of Eric Andre or John Cena, like one of those streaming movies that you see once and you'll never remember again after like two weeks. This shows that theater is important, movies need to be shot for theaters, and I want more directors to shoot and make movies for theaters.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I I completely agree, and I think also this type of story, this sort of non-marvel, non-kind of superhero Mario, you know, it it's refreshing for just a bunch of great artists coming together to tell a really, really impactful story.
SPEAKER_00Well, um well, this year has been the year of any director. People have passion have dominated obsession and artistry but obsession, back rooms, like like these films that from big budget, like the honesty of that. It's like when you have a director who clearly cares, and the movie I'm so upset about, I loved it, and I saw it in theaters. He-Man. I loved it too. I thought it was really well. And now everyone's seeing it, and apparently it's still getting a sequel because the Jeff Bezos, Jeff Bezos loves it. Unlike my favorite film, which has a second movie written, Dungeons and Dragons, which was a phenomenal film. I didn't see that that no one saw. Like the nice guys, because the Angry Birds won the NBA Angry Birds. Uh uh-uh. I yeah, he-Man was great. Jared Leto's best performance in his career, career. He that was a freaking awesome performance. You just had to you know take away his face, distort his voice, and that's his last movie because he's in really big trouble now. Yeah, oh well anyway. Overall, we go see it. Uh see it in IMAX if you can see it. Like, I'm excited to see it on the giant screen at the Lincoln Center in a day. But even you don't have a Lincoln Center, like like you know, like no assault, see it in IMAX.
SPEAKER_01Regular IMAX was perfectly fine. Don't let anyone shame you online.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's let's do the recommendations. Uh I started watching Batman Cape Crusader season two.
SPEAKER_00Oh, what I I I watched it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you finished it? Yeah, I did. I'm on a day off, so I'm like one episode in. I I'm I'm intrigued to see where we're gonna go from here.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm not gonna say nothing good. The Crusader season two. Please watch it because I hope it gets more seasons because it's really good. It's really unique, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Anything else? Um I honestly I'm gonna recommend Soulmate. It was the Megan spin-off that was put in development after the first Megan, and because Megan 2, I guess, didn't perform as well as they hoped. Soulmate kind of was in limbo, and and it just had a digital-only release today. But I was able to go to a screening a few days ago, and it's a lot of fun. I mean, it's Lily Sullivan acting as this robot. Obviously, things go wrong, but it's a really sort of over-the-top, kind of like messed up, campy. So like Chucky. Chucky, but it's like a you look like a human robot. Um and of course it goes wrong, and it's sort of almost like obsession in that the robot's designed to meet all your needs and be the love that you're seeking in your loneliness.
SPEAKER_00Obsession is more like Twilight episode gone wrong. Yeah, I mean, so is this.
SPEAKER_01I it's just like the similar dynamic of uh a guy in over his head over creating like the perfect woman that will so it's called soulmate, like your soul, soulmate. No, with an eight in the in the in the eight. Uh soulmate. Oh my god. And it has a really cool karaoke scene that I loved, and some cool kills as well. There's some nice numberment. Uh, and I just feel like people are gonna overlook it because it went straight to digital, but I do not think you should overlook it. I think it is uh it was it was a joy, it was fun to watch.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh I'm gonna go see it, but I love the book when it came out a few years ago, and it's my probably favorite movie of the year. Sheep Detectives is now on Amazon Prime. It's a great introduction for the Who Done It genre. It's a great story about grief, loss, and it's it shattered my expectations. And I read the book, it's based on uh a German translation that came out a couple years ago, and I'm really glad it hit with audiences, and I'm really looking forward to the sequel because there's a sequel, and again, showing even with CGI Animals, if you care and you can have a good cast, people will enjoy it. So that's my recommendation. And then mine is either version, Spider-Man Noir with Nicolas Cage. I watched it in both black and white and in color. I loved it. It's over the top Nicolas Cage. It's a I'm a big fan of these like spin-off Else World like stories of superheroes, like the Cape Crusader, like the Spider-Man Noir. Like it doesn't have to have like connected to a universe, and it could be more adult. Like the they're making the absolute Batman series because Supergirl did so bad they hit the nuclear option. But uh the absolute Batman animated series, dope, bam. Go. That's not what happened.
SPEAKER_01Trust the process, trust the DC process. It was bad.
SPEAKER_00It's not because it hurt, it wasn't that bad. It was serviceable. There was not it was not serviceable. Read the the comic.
SPEAKER_01I did read the comic. I ordered the comic after I saw the movie. The comic, yes, was way better than the movie.

SPEAKER_01I literally have the comic right behind me on my shelf. It was great. I think the movie had moments that were cool and unique and fun, but as a whole, yes, it's not what we want. It's not what we want for the second. It's not her fault. It's the writing's fault.
SPEAKER_00Again, I don't know if it's the writing. I I think it is a combination of execution and but anywho, but we'll see for the Superman, but we'll find out for next year. All right, so Odyssey, go see it. Yes. And we'll next episode we're gonna do the Spider-Man movie. I've seen it, he is not, so we'll see your thoughts, and then we're gonna rank all the Spider-Man movies. Oh, that's a good idea. Worst at best. So every one, Tommy Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, and the animated ones. There's 13 films. We'll see what our number one is gonna be. I think we're gonna have different I'm I'm older than you, so I grew up with Toby Maguire. So we will see.
